How often should I clean my filters?
The aluminum multi-layer grease filters should be washed in your dishwasher
approximately every month depending on the amount of usage. Wash often
if your cooking style generates greater grease like frying foods. You
cannot clean the non-duct charcoal filters; they must be replaced.
Baffle filters, which are used in select chimney style range hoods products,
are designed to operate longer in high grease conditions without loss
of performance. Generally, these need to be cleaned with soap and water
whenever the surfaces become unsightly.
How often should the non-ducted range hood filters
be replaced?
It depends on the frequency and type of cooking that is performed. Normally,
every three (3) to six (6) months is recommended for replacing the charcoal
filters.
Which is better, ducted or ductless?
Range hoods should be ducted to the outside of the home. While duct-free
charcoal filters trap some of the grease and odors from normal cooking,
the humidity smoke and heat will all be recirculated back into the home.
If the duct-free filters are not regularly replaced, eventually the grease
and odor catching effect will no longer protect your home from impurities.
High BTU gas cooking equipment should always be ducted to the outside
of the home.
What type of duct is best for venting a range
hood?
Range hoods must be vented using metal duct. Given a choice between
flexible metal duct and smooth metal duct, go with the smooth. The ridges
found in flexible metal duct create turbulence and will diminish airflow.
Never use 4" dryer duct or any plastic duct on a range hood installation.
The minimum size duct allowed on most range hoods is 3 ¼"
by 10" which is equivalent to 6" round. More powerful hoods
require even larger duct sizes up to 10" round. Check the specifications
for each model to determine. When remodeling and changing hood and cooking
equipment types, do not reduce the ductwork size to less than the size
specified for the range hood. Decreasing the duct size restricts the performance
of the range hood.
What does the term CFM represent?
CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute of exhausting air flow. The higher
the number, the greater the amount of air that is exhausted using the
Range Hood.
How much CFM do I need for my range or cook top?
For conventional electric and gas ranges or cook tops, Eurotech offers
a complete line of wall or island style vent hoods that can fit your cooking
needs. For high output BTU gas ranges or cook tops, the minimum rate of
1 CFM of ventilation per 100 BTU is recommended.
How far can I run my ductwork to exhaust my hood?
For maximum performance keep the duct straight and short. Use the shortest
route with the fewest turns possible. 45° turns are better than 90°
turns. Be sure to use an external roof or wall cap. If in doubt, consult
a qualified installer for residential cooking ventilation products or
contact the Eurotech Customer Advisory department at 1-800-898-1879.
Can I exhaust my hood into my attic instead of
out the roof or wall?
No. You should never exhaust air into spaces within walls, ceilings, attics,
crawl spaces or garages.
Can I install an external vent fan or in-line
fan to boost the performance of my Eurotech hood?
Do not install in-line or external fans to boost a Eurotech hood that
has its own internal blower unit.
How high should I mount my hood above my stove?
Most common installations require a range of 24" - 30" between
the bottom of the hood and the top of the cook top. This will provide
the best capture area for cooking impurities. Refer to the model you are
considering for specific specifications for that model.
Is a cabinet above the hood required to mount
the product?
Some hood models are designed for mounting to the wall and do not require
cabinet for mounting. Hoods designed for under cabinet applications need
a cabinet or soffit above it. Check the specifications for each model
to determine your mounting options.
Is the hood width the actual measure that is
advertised?
No. They are between an 1/8" & 1/4" smaller than listed
so that they fit properly into an opening of that nominal size.
How can I clean grease from my vent hood?
The interior of Eurotech hoods should be wiped regularly with a clean
damp cloth and mild household dish detergent or degreasers. The internal
components are
sensitive electronic items and should not be exposed to water –
use a damp cloth only. Use a non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner for
exterior surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners as these will damage the
brushed finish.
How can I test my Eurotech vent hood for proper
operation?
Turn off all cooking products burners.
Cut an 8” x 8” square of paper or newspaper.
Turn on the vent hood and hold the paper square over the vent filter.
If the vent holds the paper in place, it’s working well. Otherwise,
it may be
clogged or the ductwork to the outside may be too long which can cause
poor
ventilation.
If there is a fire on my stove, should
I turn the vent on or off?
Turn the vent OFF. Extinguish the fire as quickly as possible and if it’s
possible, turn off the vent fan too. The fan could draw the flames up
into the ductwork and create a bigger fire hazard.
Do the filters collect germs, such as dirt mites,
or those that cause allergies?
No, they are designed to capture grease particles only. Additional cooking
by-products, such as steam, heat, smoke, and odors are vented outside
the home through the ducting system.
Can my Eurotech hood be smaller than my cooking
product?
No. Your hood needs to at least match the width of the cooking product
you are placing it over.
Does Eurotech offer recirculation hoods?
Yes. Eurotech offers recirculation kits that require no outside ducting.
The kits are available for Jesi, Portonova hoods. The Bellagio model converts
internally requiring only the charcoal filter accessory.
Can my Eurotech hood be vented horizontally
from the back of the hood?
Yes. Some Eurotech hoods offer vent options for vertical applications.
Check the specifications for each model to determine.
